5 Tips To Build A Successful E-Commerce Platform

Get online. Yes now!

Thanks to the Internet, starting your own online business is as inexpensive and risk-free as ever. Really try it, you have nothing to lose. Running an online business means you can tap into hundreds of millions of potential customers, 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.

Here are my 5 tips to help you build a successful ecommerce platform:

1. Pick an easy-to-use shopping cart

The fewer clicks someone needs to go through, the better. You can always change/upgrade later. Trust me, you want to spend time on what really matters (marketing, talking to your customers, creating content, etc).

2. Don’t fret about using a pre-made template, even the most popular one.

Honestly, do you look at which template a website uses? Do you care? No, you just want it to work, right?

3. Launch as quickly as possible.

Ditch your perfectionism (it will never be perfect and your site will always need updates). Just do it! Because if you procrastinate too much, someone else will get in there first and you don’t want that to happen!

Also, you likely have no clue what your customers need. I hear you already saying “of course I know who they are!” You think you know but you might be really surprised. So start talking to them. Once you know what they need, then you can go ahead and spend money on improving your website.

4. Do as much as possible yourself.

If you don’t know how your business works then it will be hard to delegate in the future. And you don’t want to have to rely on external help to update your header or add products.

5. The dreaded SEO…

Make a real effort on this one, as it will provide a much higher return on investment in the long run. You’ll get real traffic, people who really are interested in your product, and thus a higher conversion rate.

I am not going to lie to you; you will eventually need to do some work to get your online business up and running and it won’t happen overnight, but it really is worth your time and potentially, you might make big $$$.

At least it’s safer than the casino and you are guaranteed to learn something new along the way!

Happy selling.
