Are You Living Life According To Rule #1?

Are You Living Life According To Rule #1?

In this week’s blogpost, I want to share a powerful tip that will supercharge your week ahead. I read a quote recently that says most people mistake activity for productivity.

In offices all around the world, there are people who think they are working when they are cleaning out their drawers again, filing away pieces of paper and re-organizing their inbox for the hundredth time

That’s not real work!

“But there’s just so much to get done!”

This is why it is important to begin with Rule #1 – Mission First.

Mission First simply means asking yourself the question – “What am I really doing here? What are my goals and objectives that I wish to accomplish?” And letting that be the guiding compass for what’s important and what’s not.

In life and business, there’s always 101 things calling out for our attention – but unless we live by Rule #1, we’ll forever by at the beck and call of the latest distraction and trivial thing … sacrificing real time and energy we could have otherwise spent on our primary mission.

Living mission first means doing what’s most important first – and taking stock of your progress at the end of the day. Living mission first also means outsourcing or getting other people to help you with things that aren’t linked to your primary goals, understanding that you only have 24 hours a day. Living mission first means being tired at the end of the day – but good tired. The kind of tired that comes hand-in-hand with the satisfaction of accomplishing what you set out to do.

Here are a few tips on how you can live Mission First:

1. Find out what your mission is!

Clearly, before you can live Mission First – you need to know what your mission is. Take all the time you need to answer this simple question: “What do I want to do with my life, really?”

And narrow everything to one simple sentence that you can lock in your mind. For example, when I first started, my mission was to help people – but that was pretty vague. Eventually, I settled on helping people create a full life with joy and enjoy a harmonious relationship with grace. Those combination of words resonated strongly with me, and they became my mission. So before I do anything, I ask if it is in line with my mission.

2. Watch where you’re coming from.

Coming from Mission First means sometimes letting go of being correct and keeping your ego in check. There’s a good quote – “You can be right, or you can be rich.”

So watch where you’re making choices and decisions. Are you making them from a place of wanting to be right or admired … or are you making them from a desire to advance your mission. This practice of self-observation will ensure you make smarter decisions that keep you on track.

3. Build a team that believes in your mission.

There’s a saying – “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

It applies if you’re serious about growing and advancing your mission. You can’t do it all alone, and suppose you could, the theory of constraints means you only have 24 hours and a fixed amount of energy. Even Superman belongs to the Justice League because he can’t be everywhere at the same time!

So build a team of people who believe in what you do, respect them and treat them well … and allow them to help you advance your mission. Not only will there be team synergy, everyone will be driven to do more and create more – which is living Mission First on a bigger scale.

“How much of your life is spent living from Rule #1?”

If you do not like the ratios and percentages, figure out how you will change your lifestyle to enact the changes. The simple truth is the more you live from Rule #1, the happier you’ll be … and frankly, the more money you’ll make.

Rule #1 is your power centre, and the closer you get to it, the better your life will be and the more your personal power. The secret’s out of the bag, so it’s time you use it!
