Are You Truly Prepared For Your Own Success?
Contributed by Yana Fry November 23, 2015
If you’re reading this, I know you’re the type of person who’s serious about success. But today I want to explore this question: Just how serious and prepared are we really for success?
A budding trainer wants to take his message around the world. Yet, how many hours has he prepared? Very few. How many courses has he attended? Not a lot. But he’s passionate about success – he will tell you.
A wanna-be entrepreneur wants to start her first business. Has she learnt everything she can about her business? Not really. Has she put in the time to do the research, find mentors and speak to insiders? Nope.
But she wants to succeed – she swears.
The biggest problem here is desire alone is NOT enough. Wanting something badly but not putting in the time to be mentally, physically, financially and spiritually prepared is a recipe for quick failure. I might want to run a marathon and succeed really bad – but unless I find out HOW to do so and do the training, I’m in for a rude shock come marathon day.
Most people in personal development spend a lot of time getting people to identify their heart’s true desire and guide them to crystallize it … but not many people mention the amount of hard, quiet preparation needed continually in order to reach the top. Know this too, most preparation is done quietly and privately when no one is watching. You wake up early, you stay up late, you find the books, you study the videos, you go through the materials. And it gets harder before it gets easier too. You don’t understand anything at the start, you are left confused and it seems like you’ll never get it.
The key things about preparation are determination and discipline. If you stick to it however, you quickly find that knowledge builds up, you become more fluent and finally things begin to click. You start to get the hang of things, you grow in competence AND confidence. This time, your spirit soars, your desire is inflamed - because now you know you truly can.
Success is when desire meets preparation.
So take a moment to ponder the following:
- How prepared are you in the area you wish to succeed in?
- How much time have you invested in obtaining the skills and knowledge required to be the best?
- What percentage of your week is spent getting prepared?
- What else can you do to be further prepared to succeed?
I intended this article to be an honest self-reflection for everyone who's serious about success. So much has been written about desire, but so little has been mentioned on preparation. But if you have desire and preparation, then success is almost guaranteed for you.
I wish you the best!
