Back To School Photography Tips
Contributed by Gunilla Lindgren August 21, 2015
You’re all set to go, you’ve bought new backpacks, met the teacher and lunchbox is prepared. It’s a bittersweet feeling that comes with another new school year. And as you deal with that, you might already see yourself relaxing once they are off to school with a cup of coffee on quiet, kid-free mornings.
But before it’s all you time, there’s one more back-to-school task to remember. how can we parents make sure we remember those memorable moments forever? Yup, you got it. Photograph it.
Social media will soon be flooded with cute photos of kids hopping on the school bus, holding signs saying “Grade 1 here I come” with lunch box in hand.
1. Taking a ride
If possible let them scooter, bike, walk or skateboard to school. Or at least to the bus stop! Kiddos are usually and understandably nervous on their first day. Letting them play on their favorites mode of transportation will put a smile on their faces.
2. Inspiration is everywhere
Photograph your kids doing homework, waiting for the school bus, packing the school bag, the soon-to-be routine moments that make up what they will remember about their year in school.
3. Choosing outfits
Wish this could be one topic to photograph but with the school uniform policy in Singapore, it’s not. But why not make something fun after school, making them choose their outfits — which leads me to the next tips!
4. Stage it
If you feel ever so stressed on the first day of school itself, take some of the pressure of capturing photos on a busy morning by staging a back-to-school photo shoot at another time.
5. Join in
The most important person in your kids' life is you. Join your child in the annual back-to-school photos! You've been there from the day you put her hair in pigtails for the first day of kindergarten to the day you will hug them goodbye once they are headed off to college.
I am so excited to meet all of you, virtually and in real life! And if you fancy a whimsical and fun photo shoot, you know where to find me!
