Beauty In Pomegranate
Contributed by Su Lee Chong May 5, 2016
Pomegranate is well known for its health benefits, but did you know that there is also beauty in pomegranate? It’s actually very good for your skin!
Benefits Of Pomegranate In Skin Care
1. Anti-Aging
Pomegranate is rich in ellagic acid, which is a powerful antioxidant. This antioxidant helps to prolong the life of fibroblast, the tissue responsible for the synthesis of elastin and collagen, the main protein needed for maintaining skin tone and elasticity. It, therefore, prevents wrinkle formation.
2. Wound Healing
Pomegranate seed oil is rich in punicic acid, an anti-inflammatory agent that helps to expedite wound healing and the repair of sun-damaged skin. Pomegranate seed oil is also rich in linoleic acid, which acts as a moisturizer and helps the skin cells in the dermis (deeper layer) to regenerate.
The 20 February 2006 issue of The Journal of Ethnopharmacology reported the benefits of aqueous extract of fermented pomegranate juice in helping skin cells in the epidermis (upper layer) to regenerate.
3. Anti-Acne
Digestive problems are one of the many contributors to skin problems, such as acne. Regular intake of pomegranate juice can correct digestive problems and promote healthy blood circulation. This helps to send more oxygen to the skin cells, making them fresher and smoother. Pomegranate juice is also rich in vitamin C; applying cotton wool soaked in the juice to the skin helps to regulate the oily secretion of sebum from the skin. The wound-healing properties of pomegranate will also help to heal acne scars.
Pomegranate has many benefits for the skin. However, as it is a natural ingredient, you need to give it time to work. Do not expect miracles overnight.
