Capturing Memories On Your Vacation

Summer is when many of us travel. We go back to our home countries, and visit friends abroad. What makes it more fun is the kids being home which makes it a nice break from the everyday life.

To keep the summer feeling although it eventually fades off, try and document what you are experiencing, big and small, the big picture and the small details, the connection between people, the food you eat and the journey itself. Just think about what summer means to you and focus on these elements. Whatever you are up to, document it!

Travel

“It’s not the destination but the journey that matters the most.” I find that statement to be very true. Many memories are often created during the ride to your end destination may it be by boat, plane, train or car, bicycle or rocket ship. Don’t waste that time — capture your journey!

Once on the destination, focus on the feel of the location you are in, photograph the people, the food, the scenery for a lovely memory of your trip.

Faces and People

People on vacation are more relaxed during their vacation, so embrace it! Photograph your children eating a watermelon, your family having a good laugh, or everyone having fun in the amusement park with cotton candy all over their face! OR your hubby freezing in a winter jacket on a summer day (true story folks!).

Food

The food on our trips are so important; bad food means bad trip, good food means extraordinary trip.

Mouthwatering images of delicious food with those lush colors can really make you go YUM just by looking at them! Capture what you eat and it will bring you back to that exact moment in time years after.

Even if you are “just” having a BBQ at home, photograph your friends having fun, sipping on a glass of wine, enjoying each other’s company with laughter and smiles and later on digging in on the food. Best time ever!

Relationships

Even on vacation, you get days when nothing much is going on. Your kiddos might “just” play Scrabble with grandpa or making lemonade with grandma, or maybe running and chasing with Dad. But hey, this is so worth documenting and for sure makes those memories live long after the summer has faded.

Make summer last forever with beautiful images!

Gunilla Lindgren

My name is Gunilla, a Swedish photographer based in Singapore (and Sweden, yes I fly there oftentimes to shoot). I have been in the litte red dot for almost 9 years and loving every minute of it (well, except for the humidity…do we ever get used to it). I am a mother of 3 kiddos. We have 2 golden retrievers and 2 cats (thank God no more birds or hamsters anymore!) so its like a mini zoo at home. I am childishly fond of cupcakes and have this thing for fast food.

As a  portrait photographer, my specialisations is family, children, maternity, newborn and teen. The photography style is often described as whimsical, modern and fun and I tend to agree on that!
