What do you think is the most significant contribution Filipino Women make to the country?
Being ourselves. While gender equality has improved leaps and bounds over the past few decades, there’s still a lot of work to be done. Just the act of standing up for ourselves, our beliefs, and not settling for crumbs is a big contribution.
I would say the act of defiantly gritting our teeth and doing the work that we believe needs to be done, wherever that may be, creates ripple effects that slowly but surely changes stereotypes about women. There’s still a lot that needs to be done, but us showing up for ourselves and for each other is an important step in breaking glass ceilings, and prejudices against us.
What’s your best advice for Filipino women to achieve success?
Give yourself permission to trust your gut. Allow yourself to feel, there’s a difference between having emotions and being emotional. Feelings, tempered with critical thinking and solid strategies, create cultures that are kinder, warmer, and more empathetic without sacrificing the bottom line. You CAN be vulnerable and be strong.
