Clare’s Holiday Gift Guide
Contributed by Clare Haxby December 6, 2016
Shopping for the holidays can be a tad stressful, especially when you’re trying to find the perfect gifts for a number of different people in your life.
I may be a bit biased, but I truly do believe that art makes for fantastic gifts. Not only is an original artwork eye-catching and attractive, but it can also be personal and speak to a particular person’s tastes, memories, and lifestyle. If you’re looking for unique gifts this holiday season, these limited edition prints may just be the personal touch you need.
Indigo Orchid Buddha
The Indigo Orchid Buddha is part of my ‘Meditative Art’ series, which features four Buddha paintings, each in a different tone and inspired by my travels in Southeast Asia. Indigo represents the Third Eye Chakra, which when tapped into allows us to access deep spiritual insight and intuition so that transformation can happen. This print features a serene Buddha face surrounded by subtle orchids in rich indigo hues, and it evokes calmness, mindfulness, and higher spiritual vibrations.
This is the perfect gift for anyone looking to add a bit of serenity into their surroundings.
Magenta Meet Me At The Ginger Lilies
Although I recently left Singapore to return to the UK, I still have fond memories of my favourite spots in Singapore, one of which is the Singapore Botanic Gardens. I spent many days there wandering through the grounds and soaking up the lush greenery and occasional bursts of vibrant tropical flowers. My Magenta Meet Me At The Ginger Lilies painting was one of the first I created at my new Surrey Hills Studio after leaving Singapore, and it reminds me of how beautiful and vivacious Singapore’s natural scenery can be. This is a great statement piece that will brighten up any room.
One of the things that makes Singapore so interesting is its diverse range of architecture and landmarks. On any given day you can take in old colonial shophouses, heritage hotels, and unique modern structures that you won’t find anywhere else. My Singapore Landmark Collection consists of signed limited edition prints of my paintings of iconic buildings including the Peranakan Shophouses – Marina Bay Sands, Raffles Hotel, and the Singapore Skyline lit up at night. If you’re shopping for a friend who is leaving Singapore soon or has recently left, these are great gifts that will evoke fond memories of Singapore and its sights.
Plantation House, Singapore Botanic Gardens
Walk through the Botanic Gardens to the National Orchid Garden and you will come across the Plantation House, now known as Burkill Hall. This interesting building looks like a black and white bungalow, but it is actually an Anglo-Malayan plantation house that predates the black and white buildings. In fact, this is the only one of its kind left in the entire region. My original painting features three panels that depict the dark leafy greenery and vibrant flowers of the gardens with the clean linear lines of the house in the background. The middle panel is available as a limited edition print, and a great gift for those interested in Singapore’s rich history.
