What do you think is the most significant contribution Filipino Women make to the country?
I can’t emphasize enough how valuable women are in the Philippines. When they said women were “more emotional” I refuse to see it as a negative. And instead of “emotional” I would prefer to use the word “more empathetic.” Didn’t Google already say that empathy was going to be one of the most crucial skills in the new normal? I believe that this is the true value that we deliver.
Without empathy, we wouldn’t be able to identify the truest needs of the market and we wouldn’t be creating services, products, businesses, and organizations that can help solve those problems. Empathy is a super power that I think most Filipino women have and this should be seen as significant and valuable especially by our male counterparts.
What’s your best advice for Filipino women to achieve success?
Keep and preserve your power. I say this to all genders but women need to start realizing this as well — know your worth. Not one person in this world has the license to degrade, hurt, or invalidate you as a person. If you know that you can provide value to the world, ask for something as an equivalent exchange. Don’t allow people to shortchange you and take away your power. And this is applicable not only in your career but also in your marriage, friendships, and business dealings.
If you didn’t succeed in keeping and preserving your power, that’s okay just take it back… and take it back with pride. Assert yourself and let people know that you have other more meaningful and sustainable options when one opportunity doesn’t work out or match expectations. That’s how you take your power back and that’s how you become a superhero of your own purpose and vision.
