A Day In The Life Of A Woman Perinatal Yoga Instructor

She dedicates her entrepreneurial work to supporting women’s health and well-being through perinatal yoga, birthing and parenting courses, and soy candles but it’s so much more than that.

Titled “A Day In The Life Of A Woman,” this series celebrates the women in our lives. From the everyday to inspirational, the series aims to highlight women from various fields and share a bit of the diversity we experience every day.

Cheryl MacDonald is the Founder of YogaBellies, the Founder of Body ROCKS, a perinatal yoga academy, and Co-Founder of Solas Lifestyle.

Though she currently resides in Australia, her businesses are spread out from the United Kingdom to the USA. So how does she manage it all?

Cheryl gives us a glimpse into her life as a business owner of three!

5 AM: Wake up and throw on yoga pants. Every morning I drink a pint of water with lemon in it.

5:10 AM: Enjoy some yoga practice until my son gets up around 5:30am.

5:30 AM: My son gets up. Prep his breakfast, feed him and get him dressed.

6 AM: Husband gets up. Breakfast is coffee and a smoothie for him while it’s two boiled egg whites for me.

6:30 AM: Time for the boys to go. I pack them both off and then meditate for 20 minutes.

6:50 AM: Shower and dress into a new pair of yoga pants 🙂

7 AM: I work from home so no commute for me. I spend the morning answering emails from my businesses in the UK or USA from the night before.

I begin working on YogaBellies, Birth ROCKS or Solas – these are my three businesses. This could be anything from writing new courses for my teachers, designing new products, answering press requests or creating new routines for clients. Every day is a little different.

12 PM: I savour a healthy lunch and treat myself to a diet coke at this point. I try to eat out on the balcony for some sunshine.

12:30 PM: Back to work.

3 – 8 PM: I try not to work when my son comes home from school until after his bedtime but with business in the UK, sometimes it is unavoidable.

8 – 9 PM: Now is the time for the occasional Skype or phone calls regarding business.

9:10 PM: Off to bed for the night.

Cheryl’s Love For Yoga Is Foundational

“I love teaching women yoga. YogaBellies is so much more than just a yoga class, we stretch ourselves – body, mind and soul – but the most important aspect, is women supporting women.”

She goes on to say, “Women undergo key challenges in life: menstruation, pregnancy, being a new mother and menopause. These times can be emotional and physically demanding times with huge adjustments. Women have become disjointed in their acknowledgement and acceptance of these stages and the whole concept of YogaBellies is to allow ourselves to embrace and enjoy each new stage as it comes. To love being a woman, and to enjoy the friendships and support of other women.”

From Cheryl’s many encounters with pregnant women, she realised that many of them needed more support throughout their pregnancy and thereafter, and so Birth ROCKS was born.

Birth Rocks Academy

Birth ROCKS promotes fun, realistic and approachable childbirth and parenting preparation and care for mother and baby.

Cheryl came up with the concept with her amazing team of midwives, yoga teachers, hypnobirthers and perinatal massage therapists to produce a programme which helps parents experience giving birth as the most amazing experience of their life.

Scottish Roots

Most recently, Cheryl and her friend Micheal founded Solas, a lifestyle concept inspired by the people and culture of rural and urban Scotland today. The name ‘Solas’ has Gaelic origins and means source of light or truth.

Cheryl says, “Solas wants to let the world know that Scotland may love tartan and haggis, but we also know style, good taste and beautiful homes.”

They recently released a line of candles made of soy wax (doesn’t release toxins when lit) and the wicks are also natural, made from cotton and hemp.

But why would one woman want to start so many businesses? Cheryl proudly says, “I love supporting women’s health and wellbeing!”
