A Day In The Life Of A Woman Education Advocate
Contributed by Sha-En Yeo February 22, 2018
She works to empower school leaders, teachers, and parents to create positive communities and raise thriving children. This means going beyond academics and teaching them how to be happy, resilient and make the best of their life. What’s a day like for an education advocate?
Titled “A Day In The Life Of A Woman,” this series celebrates the women in our lives. From the everyday to inspirational, the series aims to highlight women from various fields and share a bit of the diversity we experience every day.
My name is Sha-En and I’m the Founder of Positive Education. I love my work!
A typical day for me goes like this:
7 AM: Wake up to Zoey’s chattering and spend quality time playing in the bedroom before breakfast.
8 AM: Have breakfast with Zoey then send her to pre-school.
9 AM: Do yoga and meditate, so I can feel focused and balanced for the rest of the day.
10 AM: Check and reply to emails, write proposals for schools and organisations.
11 AM: Prepare training slides for upcoming events.
12 PM: Have a simple lunch at home.
1 PM: Prepare and get ready to go to deliver a workshop in school.
2 PM: Begin training workshop and get into the flow of interacting with the teachers.
3 PM: Make tea during designated tea break and chat with the teachers.
4 PM: Wrap up workshop, then head home to spend quality time with Sherrie, either playing a game or helping her with homework.
5 PM: Pick Zoey up from pre-school and head outdoors to the nearby park to play with the neighbourhood kids.
6 PM: Chat with fellow neighbours while kids play.
7 PM: Have dinner as a family when hubby gets home from work.
8 PM: Shower and bedtime routine for the kids.
9 PM: Kids sleep so it’s time to catch up with the hubby on our day.
10 PM: Read books or catch up on training slides and proposals.
11 PM: Continue reading books or browse the internet to see what friends are up to on Facebook.
12 AM: Time to sleep!
As a mum to two beautiful girls, Sherrie (9) & Zoey (3.5), running a speaking/training business allows me to be present in their lives, and still contribute financially to the family. I am grateful to be living my dream.
