What do you think is the most significant contribution Filipino Women make to the country?
It starts in the family as the women are expected to be the primary care taker. When major changes take place, women take the lead in helping the family adjust to the new realities. Just like when covid happened and we all had to be locked down.
A lot of women had to give up their careers to take care of the family. Women play different roles from being educators, farmers, caregivers… and a lot of the informal entrepreneurial labor of women like the “sari sari store” in local communities not only can be an extended family’s help line but can also form a network of economic foundation like the multi-purpose cooperatives. It’s really hard to pinpoint a single major contribution of women as their contributions to this country whether big or small are undeniable.
What’s your best advice for Filipino women to achieve success?
Make self-improvement a habit. Take chances, do not be afraid to put yourself out there, and make yourself be heard. For all the women out there, we shouldn’t be stabbing each other with our stilettoes but rather be lifting and celebrating one another as that is the only way we can break the glass ceiling!
