Fresh Mint Tea, A Healthy Addiction

With lots of snow-filled, winter scenes, and ads for warm clothing popping up on my email/Facebook/Instagram feeds, it makes me want to curl up by the fire with a hot chocolate. But I live in Singapore and it’s about 30 degrees outside- so I found an alternative…fresh mint tea!

Our fresh herb supplier had so much extra mint around the time of the haze, so he gave me some mint to enjoy for myself. Since there is only so much mint you can put in smoothies, I had to come up with another way to use it up… so we made mint tea!

And now I cannot go without my daily afternoon fix. Try it – I am sure you will love it. Oh, and you know the best thing? It actually cools you down in this hot and humid climate.

Instructions

  1. Boil a liter of water, allow to cool for a few minutes
  1. Take the leaves off the stem
  1. Put the leaves in a tea pot, pour the hot water over the leaves
  1. Empty the tea pot straight away
  1. Fill the tea pot again, and let it infuse for a while.
  1. Add sugar (optional).

Notes

  • Do take the leaves off the stem, otherwise the tea will taste bitter. It takes a couple of minutes to do, so use that time to just relax, and let your mind wander!
  • Do not skip step 4 - make sure you rinse the leaves with hot water.
  • Refill the tea pot a few times! Those mint leaves are really packed with lots of flavour!

Enjoy!

What is your afternoon treat?
