Geeks On A Beach, Palawan – Philippines – August 24-25 (Event)
Contributed by Connected Women July 3, 2017
What if you could get geeks from across Asia to gather on one of the Philippines’ most beautiful beaches for two days of startup, tech and design inspiration?
If you could, you’d need to invite a really epic keynote speaker, right? Well, that’s exactly what Tina Amper and the event’s team have done. Not only that, but Geeks on a Beach gathers hundreds of technology entrepreneurs and professionals along with relevant government agencies to also look at ways of leveraging technology to help address Philippine social and environmental issues.
About Geeks On A Beach
August 24-25th will mark the 5th annual gathering. This year the beach event is being hosted in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Why Palawan? The city is known for its environmental advocacy, is home to a world-famous underground river (the 2nd longest), and boasts one of the world’s largest ecosystems, the Tubbataha Reef.
The sights won’t be the only awe-inspiring aspect you’ll enjoy. Filipino-American Silicon Valley whiz Yobie Benjamin will be speaking.
About Geeks on a Beach Speaker, Yobie Benjamin
Yobie Benjamin is Founder and CTO at Emiritus – Token Inc, CTO of ClickSWITCH and Co-Founder of Avegant. He was named 2015’s World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, and had raised tens of millions for select companies doing incredibly innovative work.
A prime example, Benjamin raised $40 million for Avegant, the company that makes and sells the Avegant virtual reality video headset and Skully, an intelligent motorcycle helmet that helps you see what is happening behind you, receive and make calls, and communicate with nearby vehicles.
Benjamin also recently raised $18.5 million for Token, providing software to banks that enables them to issue a new payment type designed specifically for use in the digital era.
He is an expert in his field and will have plenty of applicable and useful information attendees will be able to apply to their own businesses and innovations.
“We hope the presence of Benjamin will inspire local startups and SMEs. But more important, we are looking forward to having this global technology leader to interact with industry leaders and the startup community to drive action for the betterment of the Philippines and the world. GOAB continues to aim for measurable impact by facilitating potential projects and business deals not only for individual companies but also for the Philippine startup ecosystem,” Amper said.
