Beat the heat! Indulge with these refreshing Kefir Lollies, which provide not only the best of nutrients from fruits and fresh herbs but are also high in probiotics.
They are fun, easy to make with your kids, and really, anything can be added to make them colourful and tasty! Best of all, you and your kids have no idea how truly healthy you are being when enjoying these little suckers!
Ingredients
Water kefir: contrary to what you might think, this probiotic drink is actually very easy to make at home. You simply need water grains to get started. I invite you to attend our Fermentation I Workshop, hosted with Rawlicious Raw Food, to learn how easy it is to get started on fermenting your own foods and drinks.
You can ‘second ferment’ your water kefir to flavour it in so many different ways. This flavoured kefir, or plain water kefir, can be used as a base to make the ice-lollies. You simply need some molds, and add any mix of fruits (fresh, frozen or dried) and herbs to suit your taste. Some examples are:
- Pink dragon fruit with lime kefir
- Pineapple with mint kefir
- Blue pea flower kefir
- Lemongrass and lemon kefir
Some of the things you can use in your creations:
- Kiwi, strawberry, mango, blueberry
- Mint, basil, lavender, blue pea
In the videos, you can learn about the benefits of drinking kefir, and consuming other foods that contain probiotics. Historically, many cultures have fermented foods not only to preserve them but also to attain benefits from their natural ‘healthy bacterial’ promoting properties.
Fermented foods:
- aid digestion
- support gut health
- improve absorption of nutrients
- are low in sugar and calories (sugars are turned to energy)
- are rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E
- stabilise blood sugar, which helps with food cravings
- aid in weight loss
- improve overall wellness
