#ConnectedWomen: Angelyn Teo, Holistic Beauty Coach and Advocate

The beauty business is booming and there’s no sign of it slowing down anytime soon. So many people are eager to have their skin pampered and rejuvenated, no matter how expensive treatments get, and only by the finest in the biz.

However, in a sea of beauty, it is so easy to get caught up by the superficiality and vanity of it all—customers, doctors, and therapists alike. It is rare that we see someone whose core mission and value is to provide the people with beauty that starts from the inside, goodness and beauty radiating from within.

As women continue to be a driving force for change around the world, this series aims to highlight those who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to creating an impact.

We’re shining the light on Angelyn Teo — a dedicated beauty coach, holistic advocate, healer, and owner of Holistic Place. She talks about what drives her to pursue her passion, her beliefs, and the struggles she has been through.

Please tell us exactly what you do and the services you offer?

I am a beauty coach and advocate and a healer. I specialise in skin consultation and skin typing to customise treatment for individual skin conditions.

I have had extensive training in different kinds of therapies with a healing approach. My current practices include Manual Lymphatic Drainage for face or body, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Tibetan Singing Bowl Therapy, Bio Release, Aesthetic Care, Optimal Facial.

The Optimal Facial (a combination of these therapies), is my most popular and most in-demand service.

The Meaning Behind The Business

The Holistic Place is a business with a heart. I firmly believe in loving yourself inside and out. I am an advocate for the 6 Rs of a happy, healthy lifestyle: Rejuvenate, Regenerate, Revitalise, Receive, Relax, and Recharge.

We all have the ability to heal ourselves. With holistic coaching, we are empowered by the skills, knowledge, and techniques that raise self-awareness and energise our lives. Most importantly, with this, we improve our quality of life.

Therapy should be intuitively customised to the individual needs of the body and skin. We must aim to bridge beauty and wellness to become one. The most important factor for me is to provide a safe space for my clients, where they can surrender and relax during the session.

Sharing Beauty As A Service

I believe that being beautiful isn’t only on the outside. My services are about detoxifying, purifying, regenerating, rejuvenating, and releasing of tension—outside and in.

Many opt for a relaxing spa massage on the whole body when they are stressed out, but most people neglect the areas of the eyes, cheeks, and jaw. In fact, these areas hold the most emotional tension.

If you have lots of toxins under your skin, your skin won’t be able to absorb your skin care products because of tension in your face. No matter how expensive your beauty products or treatments are, you won’t see much difference.

With my services, I hope to educate people that facials and looking after your skin aren’t about vanity. The best part of the Optimal Facial Therapy is that it inhibits stress-related hormones like cortisol and helps increase the release of beneficial neurochemicals such as endorphins. My therapies are much more focused on mood enhancing, often creating a state of euphoria.

Health As A Whole

Health for me means balancing the body, mind and soul.

‘The Sacred Balance — condensed molecules from breath exhaled from verbal expressions of anger, hatred, and jealousy, contain toxins.

These toxins, accumulated over 1 hourare enough to kill 80 guinea pigs! Imagine the harm you are doing to your body when you hold negative emotions or unprocessed emotional experiences in the body?

The state of our emotions is the key to health.

Challenges In Business

I started my business because I have high standards and expectations of the beauty therapy experience. I want my clients to experience something special.

A lot of people are afraid of having facials because of bad service, terrible skills, painful experiences, scarring or breakouts, no TLC or client care.

I wanted to create the best pampering experience — with first class service and high-quality products. I want all my clients to walk out of the therapy room with their skin feeling baby soft and radiant, and feeling recharged and rejuvenated.

As much as I love my work, my biggest challenge now is branding and marketing my business. I’ve never done anything like that in sixteen years of business. I want to learn how to do this so that I can help more people.

Overcoming Starting Trials

All these years, I’ve been operating my business with my heart and not with my mind.

To be honest, I think God had sent me many angels when I started back in 1999. I was lucky that I got many referrals and plenty of support. I was doing well at the start, and then business became stagnant from 2002-2011—these nine years were very hard for me. I can only thank my clients who have been with me all these years, I thank them for their loyalty and support.
