In The Spotlight: Diana Ng, Master Financial Consultant With Prudential

After realising she needed her own financial plan for her own future and that of her family, Diana dived headlong into learning everything about financial planning. An accumulation of experience and wisdom led her to become her own Master Financial Consultant. She now helps people build and protect their wealth.

When I was younger, it did not occur to me to think about planning for retirement. Then something happened when I was in my twenties that started me thinking about financial planning. Someone I knew lost his job suddenly due to a personality clash. He was a 50-year-old man with a family to support. He had difficulty finding a job of an equivalent level. With no savings to live on, he had to quickly take on a junior position. It was a drastic change for him because he used to hold a senior position in management. I believe it was a drastic change for his family, too, as they would have to adapt to living on a much lower household budget.

What if something similar happens to me when I am his age? Would I be able to cope? Would my family be made to suffer with me? What can I do to ensure that my family can continue to live comfortably in the event that something happens to me? All these questions flooded my mind and I was determined to do something about it.

The Beginning Of Success

I started to learn about financial planning because I wanted to plan my own finances. I read lots of books and attended many courses. The more I learned about financial planning, the more I was convinced that proper financial planning is something that everyone needs. That led me to consider making a career out of it, as I wanted to share what I had learned so that others could also benefit.

It was a tough decision because I was afraid to step out of my comfort zone. I had a stable job with an income that allowed me to live comfortably. I had doubts about taking on a job with no regular income. However, it did not take long for me to come to a decision, because I have a strong conviction that sound financial planning will lead to financial freedom and I want to help people achieve that.

Advice For The Hesitant
I am glad I took the plunge. This is my seventh year as a financial consultant and I still have the same passion as when I first started. As with any other career, there are ups and downs but what keeps me going is the satisfaction I find in helping people achieve their financial goals. If you are hesitating to make a career switch to something that you have a passion for but with no guarantee of a stable income, I would say, “Just do it!” I believe that if you put your heart and mind into doing something you’re strongly passionate about, the money will come.

Leaving More Than Financial Legacy
With sound financial planning, I have the assurance of being able to meet the financial needs in my retirement years and to leave a legacy for my loved ones. However, I would say that my greatest achievement is not about money. It is the ability to make a difference in people’s lives through the work that I do. I am grateful for the friends that I have made along the way. Yes, my clients have become my friends and it is such a joy knowing that I have made a difference in their lives.

If you want to know more about how to build and protect your wealth, I would be happy to meet with you for a chat.
