Meet Jules: A Mother Of 2 On Her Revitalize-In-5! Journey
Contributed by Liza Rowan March 8, 2017
Meet Jules Warner, mother of two boys from Singapore who recently completed the Revitalize-in-5! Nutrition course.
I had the opportunity to ask
Jules some of the questions that I often get from participants before they register. This interview took place when Jules was mid-way through the course. She has since moved to Perth, Australia with her family, and continues with her healthier lifestyle.
Why I Signed Up For Revitalize-in-5!
I signed up for the course as I wanted to learn more about nutrition and healthy eating. I didn’t want a ‘diet’, there are so many of these out there; I wanted a whole approach to healthy living and nutrition for the long-term.
Three Things I Wanted To Achieve From The Course
Main things I wanted to get from the course were: Knowledge about nutrition; ideas and recipes; and motivation to make the necessary changes.
What I’ve Achieved Halfway Through
We are halfway through the course and I feel much more informed! The daily emails have been full of useful and interesting information, on topics that I thought I knew about, but didn’t really. I feel more energized, have lost weight, and feel motivated to make healthy food choices, do a lot more cooking myself, and keep up with my exercise routine. The daily diary has been a very good motivational tool. I have chatted to my family about the course, and really feel that they will benefit too through the changes I am making to the way I shop and cook.
What I’ve Learned So Far
We have discussed – and I have recognised – some habits that I had regarding food, e.g. eating at certain times but not necessarily when hungry, or eating out and not really thinking about the food choices I was making. I am thinking much more about the way that food is cooked, or what additives or preservatives might be in the snacks or diet drinks that I used to just blindly consume.
The Time I Spend Learning Each Day
I find it takes 15 minutes to read the main content each day; and about half an hour if I want to go more in depth and read the related articles or watch the videos. I haven’t found it particularly time consuming, but getting that info every day is great for keeping me going and keeping me interested. I think you will get more out of the course if you can set aside 20+ minutes a day to read the material.
Parts Of The Revitalize-in-5! Course That I Enjoy
I love the daily recipes, and the online chats through WhatsApp and Facebook – we share lots of info and suggestions on where to shop, where to eat out, and our favourite recipes. The group is fun, and keeps everyone interested and engaged.
What I Find The Most Challenging
I haven’t found it challenging – that’s been the beauty of it! Diets in the past I have found challenging, but this is a whole new approach, and is about gathering knowledge about what I have been eating and what I now want to eat. It is not about cutting out whole food groups.
Any Advice To Those Considering Taking A Nutrition Course Such As Revitalize-in-5!?
I would definitely recommend this course. The fact that it is over five weeks, and you get information and interaction with the group on a daily basis, sustains my interest. I am really enjoying meal planning and cooking from scratch again, which I hadn’t been doing very much. Cooking by myself has enabled me to make good choices of food for me and my family. I have learnt so much already, and am really looking forward to the rest of the course!
