Six Ways To Attract Good Luck And Prosperity With Flowers This Chinese New Year
Contributed by Karen French February 7, 2016
Attract good luck and prosperity by knowing which auspicious fruit and flowers to bring indoors this Chinese New Year.
1. The Mandarin orange, which phonetically sounds like ‘gold’ symbolizes good luck and prosperity. They’re often given as gifts to friends at this time of year as a gesture of good tidings.
2. Flowers, blooms and plants play a significant role in restaurants, hotels and private homes during this period as they represent rebirth and growth. It’s common to see ‘Kai Yun Zhi’ or Lucky Bamboo in abundance at the flower markets. Lucky Bamboo with a red ribbon tied around it represents the five elements: Earth, Metal, Wood, Fire and Water and is said to balance the flow of ‘chi’ (energy) as well as being a symbol of longevity.
3. The most prominent colours are, of course, red and gold. The red symbolizes happiness, and the gold, wealth.
4. Chrysanthemums, which are long lasting and durable, are a very auspicious flower and a favourite during the New Year. Combined with other symbols of longevity, such as pine or bamboo, they will attract good luck to any interior.
6. Other auspicious plants to look out for this Chinese New Year would be Azalea, Peonies and Peach Blossom.
