The Benefits Of Taking Private Yoga Classes

A private yoga class can be for those who are brand new to yoga. The new student will benefit from one-on-one private sessions, as the instructor can focus on the needs of the individual student.

Although many new students are active and participate in other activities, a private class helps the new student learn about breathing, warm-up stretches and postures. Private lessons can also be for the student who does not do a lot of activity but would like to learn to breathe more fully, stretch and de-stress.

If a student’s schedule makes it hard to make a group class time, private lessons are a way to meet their own personal schedule. Each student will have the opportunity to discuss with the instructor their specific needs and expectations for each class.

For new students, a private class will include:

  • Dosha analysis – to understand eating/nutritional habits
  • Centering (guided breath work)
  • Series of warm ups
  • Series of poses (asanas)
  • Savasana (guided relaxation)

A private yoga lesson is also beneficial for continuing students. If a student is struggling with any aspect of the practice, a private class can help that student work on achieving a particular pose or breath work, as the student is able to spend more time on these components due to the individual attention the lesson offers. Students can also increase their knowledge by learning more about yoga's holistic system. These lessons often bring the student's practice to a higher level. Private lessons can be a "checkup" for the continuing student.

A private yoga class is also beneficial for those who have particular issues regarding health and injuries. The student will be able to move at a very slow pace while working specific areas that need attention. This will help to increase mobility, flexibility and stability to those targeted areas of the body. Yin Yoga is often practiced for these particular issues during these sessions.

Whether you take group classes or opt for a private lesson, your yoga practice will leave you with an overall sense of well-being.
