The 4 ‘RE’s Of Outsourcing: From Solopreneur To Entrepreneur

Many people start a business on their own. Being a solopreneur can be very rewarding in the beginning. You learn how to do everything and truly understand each aspect of your business … until you don’t.

While small business owners may enjoy working alone, the work inevitably piles up and eventually you will have a need to either delegate or face the prospect of being buried under a mountain of work. There is also the danger of not being able to keep up with the important yet tedious parts of the business such as invoicing, marketing and even handling new sales enquiries.

The thing is, it doesn’t have to be this way.

Business is a team sport and, with current technology, you can grow from playing singles to playing doubles quite easily. You can even upgrade to 3-on-3 basketball or 7-a-side soccer. What you really need is to find the right people to join you in your sport. And they should enjoy playing the sport with you.

This is easily done by hiring people on freelancing platforms, such as Upwork or Fiverr (editor’s note: you can also try Connected Women Jobs, our new platform). While it may seem difficult to even consider beginning to delegate, there is a formula for where to start. If you need some ideas, have a look at my 4 ‘RE’s of Outsourcing:

Take a look at what you do daily and see if there is anything that fits into one of the four boxes. Those are the tasks that you can actually delegate or outsource to someone. For example, if you spend a lot of time doing research, such as sourcing for quotations, you can hire a virtual assistant to do that for you. Similarly, if you are interested in doing content marketing, but find you do not have enough time to write, you can hire a content writer. Eventually, you can build a whole team and work together to achieve your dreams.
