The Secret Art Of Reinventing Yourself From Scratch

In my last article, we delved into how you can locate your life’s purpose and a bigger WHY for your business. Today, I want you to further that process by discussing the art and science of reinventing yourself.

As much as change is inevitable, it is often not welcomed. Even when you badly need to change, it is not always easy. The fear of the unknown and the resistance that comes with leaving your old habits for new ones can hold you back. Hence, reinventing yourself takes dedication, effort and diligence.

Below is a guide that will help you make the transformation more effectively.

1. Visualize Your Future

Create a vision for your new self and future. Visualize yourself five years from now: Where are you? Who is with you? What have you accomplished? What are some of the amazing things you’ve done over the past five years?

Imagine all the places, people and situations you would have encountered. Note them down in your diary. This sets your eyes on the prize and brings the future alive in your mind.

2. Create A Game Plan

Come up with a plan. What do you need to do to get there? A good way is to come up with a list of three to five things that you can do now to kick-start your reinvention. Keep updating the list daily or as often as possible, ticking off milestones accomplished. Ensure you break down your plan into workable and precise steps. Commit to implementing your plan a day at a time.

3. Share Your Dreams

Sharing you plan garners support for you. Share your plan with a mentor or a loved one that will offer you support, correction and encouragement when things get tough. With a healthy balance of dependence on others and your own independence, you will be able to reinvent yourself better.

4. Log In A Future Message To The Present You

Write a message/letter/email to your future self. The letter should entail an appreciation for the passage of time, things you hope to accomplish in the five years ahead and a highlight of the person you have become in the five years. Write as if in retrospect of the future: that is, as if writing a letter to you in 2021 in retrospect to life since 2016.

5. Log In A Diary

Record your daily progress on your diary. This enables you to monitor your progress and tweak your plan appropriately. Slowly and steadily, you will become better with each passing day. At the end of the day, we all need to grow and reinvent ourselves. We evolve as beings on this planet, and we can’t keep doing and being the same people we were before.

So use the steps above, tear up the old and redesign the new. Your reinvention is the glory of the next chapter of your life!
