Try Out These Inexpensive Superfoods

Superfood is a special category of food found in nature. They are calorie-sparse but nutrient dense and are packed with antioxidants, phytonutrients, minerals and essential nutrients.

Why Superfood?

  • They provide an extraordinary supply of antioxidants, minerals, enzyme and nutrients all in one.
  • They provide the health benefits beyond their nutritional components, working synergistically to optimize body function, heal the body and bring it back to balance.
  • They provide nutrients that are rarely found anywhere else in nature.
  • They reduce the risk of diseases and inflammation, which is the key driver of chronic diseases.

Try out these inexpensive superfoods and get the maximum health benefits:

1. Berries

Berries are rich in phytonutrients that are powerful antioxidants to quench the free radicals that ravage our body. They are high in potassium and Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2 and vitamin B6. A 100g serving provide 77 mg of potassium, 9.7 mg of vitamin C and 6 mg of calcium.

Eat from a wide variety of berries such as blueberries, strawberries, Goji berry and Acai berry. Fresh is the best, but frozen or freeze-dried is better than canned.

2. Green Tea

Green tea contains ECGC (Epigallocatechin Gallate), which is a polyphenol flavonoid and a powerful antioxidant. In a Japanese study on green tea, it was discovered that people who drank green tea had lower cholesterol than those who didn’t. ECGC is also found to inhibit cancer cells.

3. Wheat Grass

Wheat grass is the sprouted grass of a wheat seed. Because it is sprouted, it contains no gluten and other common allergic agents. Wheat grass alkalizes the body allowing optimum functions. It helps to normalize thyroid imbalance and assist in digestion as well as promote weight loss.

Spirulina has many benefits and one of them is controlling blood sugar and cravings. So, taking Spirulina can help with weight loss.

5. Pomegranate

Pomegranate protects the heart. A 2004 BBC report showed Israeli scientist discovered that 1 glass of pomegranate juice a day can reduce the risk of heart disease. 100 g of pomegranate contains 236 mg of potassium, 10 mg of Vitamin C, 10 mg of calcium and 4 g of fiber.

6. Green Leafy Vegetables

Fresh green leafy vegetables are rich in chlorophyll, easy digestible protein, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. They cleanse the kidneys, nourish the brain cells and strengthen the immune system.

Eat from a wide variety of inexpensive green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, watercress, parsley, lettuce and broccoli.
