Unveiling Dior’s Newest Fragrances: Miss Dior Limited Edition and The Woman Within
Contributed by Peiru Teo October 16, 2015
Executive Lifestyle’s very own Featured Experts Peiru Teo of La Belle Couture and Lydia Neo of Helios Media Design were invited to an exclusive Harper’s Bazaar event to sample some of Dior’s newest fragrances, and test their line of high quality beauty products.
Peiru and Lydia enjoyed themselves immensely, and are now all the wiser for learning perfume layering alongside other beauty tricks. Here is the account from Pieru Teo’s perspective which will have you longing for an invitation to your nearest Dior Boutique!
Memorable Entrance
It was definitely a ladies’ beauty night out at Dior Beauty’s event, organized by Harper’s Bazaar. From fragrances, skincare, to nails and makeup, anything a woman can possibly think of for beauty was definitely available at the Dior Boutique. Walking through the boutique makes me think of a woman’s transformation, and blooming a little more with each touch of elegance and glamour along the way.
The highlight was definitely the fragrance discovery experience. Our perfume expert, Kelly, took us through a wonderful journey of layering the fragrances from the J’adore range.
I started with the J’adore Dry Silky Body Oil as the foundation. The texture was smooth and did not feel oily or sticky at all. Then Kelly pampered me with a hand massage, which felt so good!
Next, Kelly applied some J’adore Touche De Parfum on my right wrist and lightly dabbed it on my skin.
For the last step, she asked what scent I wanted, to which I replied that I liked something with a floral and powdery fragrance. She recommended the Voile de Parfum, and it was perfect! The interesting part was comparing the effects of how the Touche De Parfum changed the effect of the scent. The wrist without felt more fresh and daytime like, while the one with the Touche De Parfum gave a more sensual and musky feel.
I’m glad I found my scent!
Lydia also tried the fragrance experience. It was like homecoming for her as she revealed that J’adore was the fragrance she wore for her wedding!
Instead of the dry oil, she tried the Beautifying Cream as the base. It worked well for her as it aids in moisturizing the skin, which helps the skin to better retain the scent.
Lydia asked Kelly if it makes sense to spray perfume on our clothes, as our clothes don’t ‘perspire’. Apparently we were wrong! Spraying on our clothes doesn’t really help retain the scent. In fact, it works better to apply scents on our pulse points, namely the neck (below the ears), at the back of the neck, wrists, and at the cleavage. Some ladies also apply them at the back of the knee and at the ankles. Myth debunked!
Showers of Perfume
When Christian Dior launched his first couture collection, he sprayed 1 litre of Miss Dior throughout the entire house. I felt a similar impulse to buy 10 bottles of perfume and use them all during our fashion show for our own gown collection launch!
In the past, women needed to buy a couture dress to own fragrance. In fact, what’s a better match for a beautiful woman to leave a lasting impression than with a mesmerizing scent?
Exclusive Scent with Couture Detailing
We got to preview the limited edition Miss Dior Couture Edition, where there’s only 25 pieces in the world. Lucky no. 5 was in store. The limited edition lace fabric used to make the bow came from the lace from Christian Dior’s wedding couture collection. Having seen many laces of the world, this unique piece of lace really caught my eye with its delicate workmanship. The attention to detail is très magnifique!
The Marina Bay Sands Dior boutique also showcases La Collection Privée, which is an exquisite collection of specially created fragrances. Kelly explained to us how this was like a perfumer’s dream collection. Apparently the perfumer was given total free rein to design the perfumes. No budget, no interference, just anything he could find that is the best in the world. We could totally feel the perfumer’s excitement in the freedom of creating such a product. What a luxury it was.
We then visited the nail station where I was treated to an express manicure. Being a gel polish fan, I admit that I have not used normal polish for a long time. However, the attractive display and wide colour palette was too much to resist.
I have to say that the colour dries really fast and the top coat lasts really well. My fear of chips or accidents for the entire night were unfounded. Makes me laugh thinking of how I used to dread simple tasks like unzipping my bag or searching for my mobile phone.
Lastly, we visited the makeup station. I loved the Fix IT 2-in-1 Prime & Conceal stick. I thought that it was really ingenious to have the primer in the middle! As I usually apply my concealer before my foundation, I find retouching the concealer difficult as it usually ends up cakey and dry, especially around the eye area. So it’s great to finally find a concealer that we can apply even above our powder foundation. A great concealer is really a godsend to people like me.
Lydia tried on new lip colours and touched up her look for the night. As women who love technology, we noticed a really cool device on the counter. It scans your skin tone and lets you know exactly what foundation shade matches your skin. No more guesswork, no more frantic dabbing on your cheekbones or worrying if the environment’s lighting is affecting your judgment. Needless to say, we totally love it!
And that’s a wrap!
