Want To Be Healthier And Happier? Learn To Appreciate Your Body
Contributed by Liza Rowan March 12, 2016
Can we look after something if we don’t respect and care for it? If we want to be healthier and happier, and achieve all the amazing things we want to, we really have no choice but to have a positive attitude towards our physical and mental state.
We may have to work on developing this ‘self-love’ so that we accept and appreciate our one and only body.
Here’s how you do it:
- Treat yourself to a nice notebook; call it your ‘Lifebook’.
- In the first half, block off a number of pages for every decade that you have lived so far (my next article will explain what to do in the second half of your Lifebook).
- Plan to spend a couple of hours indulging yourself somewhere relaxing, with a nice cuppa, or perhaps a glass of wine.
- Now, write EVERY achievement you’ve notched up so far in each of the decades you have lived.
- Include everything from your first kiss, to little sporting achievements, to birthing your kids – every single thing you are proud of.
- Then ask yourself: Would I have achieved ANY of this without my healthy mind and body?
The answer is, absolutely not!
Sure, circumstances many have helped, but at the end of the day it was YOUR choice to go do and achieve all these things - they don’t belong to anyone else.
Perhaps you think you received the short straw genetically; for example, a particular illness might be strong in your family, or you might not have received the long limbs like your sibling did. However, these are things we cannot change, but we can certainly work with them.
Accept that you are you, and want to be only you.
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
All we really own is our precious body and our unique mind. Without them we cannot do, or be anything.
Whenever you are feeling a little blue, have a read over your Lifebook for an instant pick-me-up; it will honestly bring a smile to your face every time, and it beats raiding the snack cupboard.
Invest time and effort to learn how to keep your mind and body healthy – if you are kind to them, and look after them well, they will enable you to achieve all the things you’ve yet to do.
