Wear These Two Colours for More Happiness and Wellness in 2017

2016 may be coming to a close, but we’re not even close to saying adieu to Pantone’s Colours of the Year – Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Here are 10 classic pieces in those iconic colors you should have in your wardrobe – right now!

When Pantone first endorsed two Colors of The Year for 2016, it sent shockwaves to those who traditionally expected the color company to endorse only one signature color as its COTY. Previous COTYs include the crimson-hued Marsala (2015), the vibrant Turquoise (2010), and warm-hearted Mimosa (2009).

But choosing both hues made complete sense. Reminiscent of a glorious sunset, Leatrice Eisemen, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said this about the two colors: “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness, as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. “

The jury’s still out on how 2017 will be like, but what’s clear is that wearing pastel colors (specifically pink and blue) convey warmth, love, calmness, and trust; and with the looming economic situation, who doesn’t need a little bit more happiness?

Pastel doesn’t have to be just for little girls. Here are 10 ways you can wear Rose Quartz and Serenity to the office with confidence, elegance, and just that little bit of sass.

Tops

This pastel pink number is a mix of sophistication and elegance, with the sweetheart neckline and peekaboo mesh fabric. The dainty floral applique on the hem and neckline adds visual interest.

Cross a formal dress shirt with a turtle neck and you get a top that lends masculinity to a feminine silhouette.

Outerwear

Top off any work outfit with this wide lapel blazer to add a touch of classy preppiness.

Biker jackets have made a resurgence in the last year and with its classic design, having one in a non-traditional colour makes it a must-have in your wardrobe.

Dresses

A shift dress is a fashion workhorse that will last for years without going out of fashion. The colour blocking also promises a look that continues to remain fresh.

This dreamy blue complements a bold ethic design in a modern day take on the traditional cheongsam.

Pants

Bring a summer vibe into the office with this lovely crop trouser that reveals just enough skin without being inappropriate for the office.

Palazzo pants are a throwback to the 1960s where fashion forward women like Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich wore them as a nod to their avant-garde style.

Skirts

The swing skirt hits the knee at just the right spot, blending comfort with style. Wearing pastels with metals amps up the glam factor.

Pencil skirts are a staple for many women; stand out from the crowd with this subtle daisy lace pattern that features a front slit.

If you’ve never considered wearing pastel, here are three ways to make it work for you at the workplace.

1. K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple and Smart)

Lace, pleats and ruffles do tend to be more feminine, but when worn in proportion to your body size and in moderation, they create interesting details for the eye to delight in. Geometric designs also add definition to the outfit and are perfect for the workplace.

2. Make A Statement

Pastels are just as strong a colour as a crimson red or a cobalt blue so go big by wearing a monochromatic (1 colour) suit or pairing with other pastels like mint, lemon, or mauve. If you’re just starting to experiment with pastels, try teaming them with light neutral colours like white, grey, cream or khaki. Metallic accessories also work really well in giving your outfit a touch of class. If you’re a little bolder, wearing a pastel color with rich jewel tones will rock your work outfit.

3. Go for Quality and Fit
Buy the best quality that you can afford as badly-made garments or low quality fabrics show up more with light colors.  Find a good seamstress and alter your clothes so that they fit you. A 1-2cm difference may not seem like much but if it prevents the fabric from gaping awkwardly, it is well worth the trouble.
