Weight Loss Is NotAbout What You Can’t Have. Part 2

By focusing on being healthy, you will want to eat foods that are not only good for you but that will also enable you to feel energized, have great skin, and build up your immunity.

These are foods that don’t contain refined sugars, processed grains, hydrogenated fats or the plethora of permitted additives.

Foods that contain these nasties also make us fat. Not only that, they zap us of energy making us feel lethargic– we, therefore, lose the motivation to do things, including striving to be healthy. In addition, these foods, particularly sugar, are addictive and cause us to crave more – that infamous rise in blood sugar levels, and then the crash. This abuse of insulin causes us to feel tired, stressed and hungry all the time. The kids are in bed, so all we want to do is sit in front of the TV munching on a box of chocolates we had bought as a gift for someone else.

So, in order to lose weight, we need to focus more on being healthy. It’s that simple. So you’re thinking…

What about that bar of chocolate I need to have most evenings?Learn to enjoy it mindfully, so you’re happy with a few squares. Dark chocolate, with all those flavonoids, not only makes you feel good by increasing serotonin levels but it’s also good for your heart.

I can’t resist Ben &Jerry’s!Whiz up frozen bananas with a little milk and vanilla essence. Save the cost of the less-healthy B&J’s for an occasional treat.

I need my crunch when the kids argue– usually a bag of crisps.Make your own popcorn – it’s so healthy and you can ‘dress’ it up as you wish.

I can’t give up our family Friday pizza. And so you shouldn’t. Pizza can be made so much healthier with a thin crust, some good quality cheese, lots of veggie toppings and your protein of choice.

What about my glass of wine watching my favorite show on aSaturday night?Of course you must enjoy this, but stop after two glasses – plan activities for the next morning so you want to get up feeling fresh to enjoy an active day with your family.

These are just some examples, but believe me, everything can be made healthier and still be just as tasty for you to enjoy. You can ‘have your cake and eat it’ so to speak, while you go down a healthier, lighter, path.

As a throw back to Kate Moss’ silly comment – “Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels”.  Try this long-term, lifestyle approach – you won’t regret it.
