Why You Will Never Find Your Better Life In Your Comfort Zone

If you’re reading this, I know you’re the type of person who’s serious about success. But today I want to explore this question: Just how serious and prepared are we really for success?

Last June I was overseas once again – as I embarked on a short vacation, business trips and a heart-pounding climb up Mt Kilimanjaro. Yes, we’re talking about the highest mountain in Africa, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world (credit Wikipedia for that!)

Why am I doing this? Why am I paying thousands of dollars and flying to Africa to scale a mountain that’s also a dormant volcano? The simple answer – I’m pushing my comfort zone once again.

I want to challenge myself.

Ever since I declared my intent to be an internationally-recognized workshop leader and trainer, I’ve constantly made a vow every year to do something that scares me. In the past, it was doing workshops solo overseas. Then it was attending courses and seminars that were challenging (even brutal), forcing myself to reflect and make important changes.

I do this because I value walking the talk. I encourage my students to do the tough things in life and to live fearlessly. I find it essential that I challenge myself constantly too. But more importantly, I know that my better life lies outside my comfort zone.

And that’s the BIG lesson today – there is not much left to search and find inside your comfort zone. You won’t find the breakthrough, the game-changing idea or the magic moment you desire inside your existing comfort zone.

Why? Because if it was there, you probably would have already done it and used it! So if you want your life to look, feel and sound different – you have to BE different and do things differently.

That means stepping into the unknown.

That means feeling that nervous, fearful, butterflies in the stomach all over again.

That means being an amateur once more.

That means making mistakes, falling down and learning from it.

Unfortunately, there is no escaping that if you want to grow and continue improving your life. Stay put, refuse to step out - and your life comes to a stand-still. Successes become yesterday's news. Growth stops and everything becomes stale. Literally, it's grow, expand - or die.

Looking back at my life, my early unhappiness in life was largely because of my reluctance to step out of my comfort zone and do the things I needed to change my life. I hoped and prayed that things would magically change - but it never did.

These days, I know that if I want continual growth and change, I need to push through and challenge myself every single time. I'm committed to this process - for the rest of my life. And I tell you, you'll never feel more alive when you are a newbie trying something new. Experiment with it, and watch as your energy, spirit and income level soar.

Remember: There's nothing new left in your comfort zone. Your better life lies outside. Push through and you'll find it.

So as a parting thought:

  • Where in life are you resisting change and staying in your comfort zone? Why?
  • What do you need to do in order to change your life dramatically? (My guess is you already know this)
  • What can you do now to make it happen?

Really invest the time to answer these questions. Push through - you'll find more of everything in life that you want, love and deserve.

Live Fearlessly,

Yana
